Miklat Miklat is an ongoing collaborative project about transformative justice and the ritual of the scapegoat. This piece was shown at Dirtstar: Take Root, a queer art show at the Luggage Store Annex in June 2011. Lewis Wallace and I created a companion zine that offers stories and questions about transformative justice today.

The root of the scapegoat concept is an ancient ritual in which the community was cleansed by placing their transgressions onto a goat, which was then led out to die in the wilderness. In this piece, the goat is beneath an assemblage of signposts pointing toward the Ir Miklat (Hebrew for City of Refuge). These were places where someone accused of a serious crime (such as manslaughter) could live out their life without fear of retributive violence.

These paintings were exhibited in the show Size Never Mattered, Size Always Matters, at Million Fishes Gallery in September 2009. Media include acrylic, glassine, silicone, pen, and collage on wood.

The Center for Media Justice is a progressive communications strategy and media policy organization. I had the pleasure of working with them to rebrand the organization, including a new logo, website, and print materials.

Movement Generation

Movement Generation is a brilliant Bay Area project that provides analysis about the global ecological crisis and builds connections with economic and racial justice struggles. I have had the pleasure of working with them to build their identity system, design their website, and most recently, to design t-shirts and posters for their third anniversary celebration.

I recently worked with California Latinas for Reproductive Justice, based in Los Angeles, to update their logo for their five year anniversary celebration. I have also designed several of their reports, and had a great time researching beautiful pre-Columbian patterns to integrate into their publications.

I created a logo and illustrated postcards for the Transgender, Gender Variant & Intersex Justice Project in San Francisco. The cards are a way to send love and mail to their constituency, who are primarily incarcerated trans women of color.
